Breaking the Internet: RDJ’s Astonishing Return as Doctor Doom in Avengers Doomsday
Introduction: How RDJ Epicly Became Dr. Doom in Avengers Doomsday
Marvel thought, “We haven’t broken anything in a while, why not break the internet today?” They dropped their bomb named RDJ on us and gave us the same dialogue we heard in Endgame: “You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me.” Now, as we slowly recover from the shock, I thought we should discuss the burning question on everyone’s mind: What exactly is Avengers Doomsday, and how is RDJ, who has been playing Tony Stark/Iron Man for so long, going to become Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom?
Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of comic book knowledge to share and will explain everything layer by layer. We’ll also cover some of Victor Von Doom’s origin from the comics, although not in full detail since Marvel has done so much with Doctor Doom’s origin that it has changed over the years. We’ll keep it light and relevant for this post.
Who is Victor Von Doom, or Doctor Doom?

To put it simply, Doctor Doom is one of Marvel’s most respected villains. He was born many years ago in a Romani tribe, which can be traced back to the Indian subcontinent, possibly even Rajasthan. Imagine Doom enjoying dal bati churma in his solitude! But jokes aside, Doctor Doom was known as Victor in his childhood. His mother, who practiced witchcraft, was banished and later killed by her tribe, which young Victor witnessed. His father was also at risk of being banished, but Victor threatened to return and take revenge, so they were spared but lived under a harsh baron.
Eventually, Victor ended up in the US, where he met Dr. Reed Richards at university. Victor initially thought no one could rival his intellect until he met Reed, who was actually smarter in every way. Victor was working on something to bring his mother back from hell, where she was trapped by Mephisto. He experimented, burned his face, and always wore a mask afterward. He eventually became Doctor Doom, ruling his homeland of Latveria, where the people actually liked him because there was no poverty or unemployment under his rule.

However, Mephisto, not pleased with this, gave Doom an annual chance to free his mother, but with a catch. If Doom failed, his people would hate him more each year until no one loved him. Doom accepted, and every year he failed because Mephisto rigged the game. Finally, with the help of Doctor Strange, Doom managed to save his mother’s soul from Mephisto’s grasp.
Doctor Doom is not your typical villain; he blends science and magic seamlessly, making him a formidable opponent. He is so dangerous because if someone counters his science, they can’t counter his magic, and vice versa.
RDJ as Doctor Doom: How Could It Work?
Now, regarding how RDJ could integrate into the MCU as Doctor Doom, there are a few prominent comic book arcs, like “Infamous Iron Man,” where after a major event called Secret Wars, Marvel rebooted its universe. Doctor Doom decided to turn good, donning the Iron Man armor in Tony Stark’s absence. He chose this path not out of repentance but out of logic, believing that his evil ways always led to failure. So, he became the Infamous Iron Man, fighting villains while exploring his mother’s revival, manipulated by Mephisto all along.
Another interesting scenario is a “What If” universe where Victor Von Doom’s roommate at college is Tony Stark instead of Reed Richards. Stark’s lifestyle irritates Victor, leading to a rivalry, but eventually, they bond. Victor tricks Tony into helping with a machine that swaps their bodies. Doom, in Stark’s body, exploits Tony’s influence and power, while Tony, in Doom’s body, rebuilds his life and even creates his own armor.
Conclusion
RDJ’s potential role as Doctor Doom could be integrated into the MCU through various storylines, blending elements of magic, science, and their unique rivalry, making for a compelling narrative. Whether Marvel chooses the Infamous Iron Man route or a “What If” scenario, the fusion of RDJ’s charisma and Doctor Doom’s complex character is bound to bring a fresh, electrifying twist to the MCU. So, let’s buckle up and get ready for another epic Marvel journey!
